Scarlett Johanson will cover Tom Waits on her first musical Project

first of all: i adore Scarlett and i love Tom Waits.
so the fact that she will produce a whole album with Waits cover songs gets me somewhat itchy.
i never heard her sing (she is supposed to have sung in the background of an Obama spot...), but i feel deep inside that she has to be great...and even if not i will just hypnotize myself to think she is as awesome as a vocalist as she is as an actress.


The album will be called "Anywhere I Lay My Head" and will contain one original composition and ten Tom Waits cover songs. it is due to be released on May 20th and if it is as good as i expect it to be, it will be the first album i actualy buy this year.

so, what do you think? have you heard her sing before somewhere?
are you just as excited as i am?

Never heard her sing, but this sounds like it could be very interesting.
Do you know if this will be a one-off album, or will she be releasing other stuff (though not necessarily Waits covers)?

well, although i believe she really loves Waits, i have the feeling that she is testing the reactions of the people.
so i guess it might depend on the sales of this album, but i'm not entirely sure about that.
i like to believe that she is pure of heart and does it for the music...[/delusions]

I think my initial reaction to this was 'Paaaaahahahahahahahahahaha!' Then someone made a joke about her looking good without a shirt on, which caused me to laugh again. It wouldn't surprise me if she could sing, and hell, if she can't, I have no doubt some machine can make her (She performed a song live with Pearl Jam I do believe, sounded kinda' bad). It was just hard to see the point. She's obviously a Waits fan, and it's only through being who she is that a record company would throw money at a rather silly idea... Of course, I do have hopes for it, I doubt anyone can ruin a Waits song. Let's just say seeing the cover for the first time hasn't filled me with hope. Looks like the cover to any one of Lindsay Lohan/Hillary Duff/Other actress turned singer's 'albums'.

All in all... Meh.

Well I'll be pleasently surprised if it's brilliant, but if it isn't, I've got quite a few other albums to fall back on this year.

Anyway, unlike Lohan or Duff, she has nothing to lose releasing an album.

Don't think Lohan or Duff had anything to lose either, just hoping to ensnare more kids. Obviously this isn't aimed at kids, but it's a sure fire thing money wise. I was only comparing covers, judging the album by it's cover almost...

she's a goddess, she needs nothing but our worship...what? did i really write that?

well, i'm not relying on that album to make my year...but i hope it does so.

and yea, according to wikipedia she performed with jesus and the mary chain and i should start looking for a recording of that to justify/crush my hopes...
